Removal of a structure from the Vacant Structure Registry is at the discretion of the City of Charleston Building Commissioner. Submittal of incomplete or inconclusive evidence for removal from this Registry may result in ongoing fees. It is the responsibility of the property owner or agent to provide the information and evidence necessary to prove that the structure no longer meets the qualifications of a vacant structure.

If the registration information collected here or through other communication regarding the vacant status changes or becomes inaccurate during the course of any calendar year, it is the responsibility of the owner, responsible party or agent for the same to contact the building commissioner within 30 days of the occurrence of such change and advise the department of those changes in writing.

The failure or refusal of any owner to register a vacant structure as required by this article, knowingly providing false information or withholding information required to be provided by the registration requirements, or failure to comply with any of the terms of this article shall constitute a violation misdemeanor offense, punishable upon conviction thereof by a fine in the amount of not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) one thousand dollars ($1,000) or confinement of up to 30 days, or both, for each violation. It shall be a separate violation for each month that an owner knowingly fails or refuses to register a vacant structure as required by this article.
